" Fun, Inspiring Music Lessons "
About Me:

I've had success over the past 10 years in helping K-6th grade students get past that difficult "beginner" stage, as well as guiding high-school and college students as they prepare for the next step in their education and career in music. I've also taught plenty of adult beginners looking to learn the guitar with a broad, well-rounded approach. As a performer I've been playing guitar and bass for 20 years in a variety of settings, from solo recitals, to small bars and larger nightclubs, to jazz clubs and outdoor festivals.  I also play piano and drums.

I am skilled at many styles, but especially the many facets of rock/blues/pop and jazz. I offer fun, thoughtful, expert instruction to students of all levels: everything from simple rock, blues, or folk songs and licks to more advanced areas, including jazz improvisation and soloing over chord changes, scale and chord theory, transcription, ear training, and composition.

I have a genuine love of teaching music and seek to provide my students with a warm and encouraging atmosphere, allowing for the discovery of self-exploration and expression through music.

Below is a brief explanation of my approach to teaching:

My basic philosophy in teaching music lessons is: keep it fun!  I can show you how to figure out how to play your favorite songs or give you the theory and exercises needed to bring your playing up a notch. You'll learn proper technique, practical theory, improvisation, and apply these skills to as you learn repertoire of jazz, blues, R&B and rock music.  If you're ready we can also work on composition, musicianship, and advanced theory. If you just want to learn songs, that's fine too. All you need is a guitar and a favorite song or two.

Most importantly, I teach according to your needs and goals as a musician. I don't force a program or curriculum -- I will help you become the guitarist YOU want to be. Each week we will expand your technique and knowledge while honing in on the sound and style you want.
